The Governing Council today approved several contracts for works projects in water infrastructure in the municipalities of Sewell, Cehegín, Cartagena and Ceuta, which involves an investment of the Community of a budget in excess of 12 million euros for this year and 2009.
Specifically, 3.1 million earmarked for work on the draft Tertiary Treatment of Sewage Treatment Station (STP) of Sewell, to become pre-potable effluent from the existing treatment plant.
The facility capacity is 4.7 cubic hectometres.
This action increases the security of its reuse in irrigation.
Also, the Community will invest 2.1 million euros in the Tertiary Treatment of the sewage plant Cehegín, with capacity of 2.5 cubic hectometres a year, which adds the figure of 1.9 million euros which will undertake the cleaning of coastal waters of the river parishes Argos.
Within this set of water projects also includes the procurement of the works of a sewage outfall in Cartagena districts of El Algar El Beal, El Llano del Beal and the Strait, works for the Ministry of Agriculture and Water allocated 2.3 million euros.
Similarly, the Board of Governors has approved the procurement of works for a collector to collect wastewater from the west of Ceuta, worth 2.7 million euros.
These activities, funded under the Cohesion Fund of the European Union and the Community budget, are included in the General Plan of cleansing and purifying of the Region of Murcia, and help to maintain leadership in the indicators of excellence in water management.
The Region of Murcia reused more than 110 cubic hectometres, which accounts for 25 percent of the national total.
