The 7,300 cans of mackerel are part of the 21 tons seized last October by agents of the National Police Station of Cartagena in a drug operation conducted against the Marseille mafia, that 420 kilos of cocaine hidden among the cargo.
The remaining 18 tons were delivered last January 21 to several soup kitchens of Cartagena in a ceremony attended by the Director General of Police, Ignacio Cosidó.
The president of the Solidarity Association Beata Piedad de la Cruz, Juan Martinez, thanked receiving cans and has indicated that they will try to best distribute among the needy.
The soup kitchen usually serve about 50 people a day to eat and fifty children for snack in person, and serves more than 200 families who collect food that this institution provides every twenty days.
The bishop of the Diocese of Cartagena, Jose Manuel Lorca Planes, thanked the extraordinary work of those who attend the center and wished that increasingly fewer people who need their services.
