IU-Greens in Sewell has filed a motion to the next plenary session by asking the City Council to develop a plan against energy poverty, in order to guarantee the right of citizens to basic household supplies.
The initiative also requests that require the central government passing a law against energy poverty, governing the system of basic supplies, including mechanisms that prevail saving and penalize inefficient consumption and establish social prices.
Also requests that the Council urge the Executive to amend the law governing VAT to be reduced bills for gas and electricity in the home.
Councillor for IU-Greens Sewer, Carmen Maria Pina, has indicated that more and more families in the town who can not afford to pay the bills necessary, basic services such as electricity and water.
Pina noted that given the "dramatic energy poverty" in many households, utilities have increased their profits.
He also recalled that according to the UN fuel poverty kills 10,000 people in Spain each year and causes between 10 and 40 percent of deaths in winter.
