The Community plans using terrestrial remote sensing system to detect the source of odors in the Sewer (04/03/2014)

Characterization will be allowed real-time atmospheric emissions chemicals and industrial compounds

The Ministry of Presidency, through the Directorate General of Environment, planning the use of an assessment system based on terrestrial remote sensing techniques, in order to detect and identify the source of any odor episodes recorded in the Sewer area and its surroundings.

This technology, of Canadian origin, will get comprehensive information on substances so far unidentified and complete the evaluation done daily Network of Atmospheric Monitoring Region of Murcia, in implementation of European directives to control various types of contaminants.

Would use the real-time characterization of atmospheric emissions of chemicals and industrial compounds.

So he communicated today the Minister of Presidency, Manuel Campos, Mayor Sewell, Lazarus Mellado, who was accompanied by the Town Planning, Environment, Trade, Industry, Employment and Consumption, Juan Jose Gomez, and Public Safety, Civil Protection and Fire Fighting, Juan Pérez de la Luz.

The Minister noted that "the high cost of this technology requires use in specific areas and in spaces not very long time."

However, he said, "the regional government is not going to skimp on effort or means to detect the source of odors in the Sewer and their environment, since the only objective pursued is to end the discomfort they generated by citizens. "

"The regional government is working hard and tirelessly to ensure the welfare of citizens through ongoing surveillance and monitoring of the parameters listed in environmental legislation for the protection of health and the environment, which in any case have passed, "noted Fields.

It also stressed the need for regional and local government work closely in investigating odor episodes in order to identify its source and take appropriate action.

New system

The technology would be used in a new system that will allow the study of substances through a system of capturing hyperspectral bands in mid-infrared and thermal infrared and continuous recording of the area under study.

It is possible the eventual detection and identification of gases in the area, comparing the electromagnetic spectrum detected with hyperspectral signatures stored in the database a set of more than one hundred substances previously studied.

The system incorporates real-time detection of atmospheric chemicals and industrial compounds.

Similarly, the Ministry of Presidency works closely with experts from the University of Murcia in a research group to narrow the scope of a study to identify the source of these problems and the substances that can produce to carry out the necessary actions.
