SEBASTIAN LORENTE IBÁÑEZ

Sebastián Lorente Ibáñez, born in Sewell (Murcia), the December 13, 1813 and died in Lima (Peru), November 28, 1884), a prominent theologian, philosopher, historian and Spanish physician, settled in Peru, large pusher education in Peru.

BIOGRAPHY

Son of Don Sebastián Lorente and Isabel Ibáñez, began his studies at the Seminary of Murcia, where opted bachelor's degree in theology in 1828, he moved to the University of Valencia, whose medical school chose medical degree in 1834 and In order to pursue trasladose right to Madrid in 1835.

For competition became professor of philosophy at the Royal College of San Isidro, and view its efficiency, was recommended to teach the children of the Marquis of Santa Cruz.

But his commitment to liberalism exposed the cruelty of absolutist reaction, and in this situation, chose to invoke propositions make him the then President of Peru, Sunday Elias in 1842, and traveled to the country to join the College of Our Lady of Guadalupe.

Initially assumed teaching geography in 1843, then exercised the leadership in the years 1844-1849 and made a fundamental reform in its guidelines, introducing new subjects, Ancient History, Media and Modern, General History of America and particularly Peru, Literature, Political Economy, Statistics and Natural History, raising the quality of their lessons to turn it into a media center instruction, and renewing the methodology.

For lack of teachers is forced to give up to ten subjects in 1846, and in addition, took office in San Carlos Convictorio teaching Geography and Literature, and the College of Medicine began in Philosophy, Health, Medicine and Natural History Legal.

So hard work his health broke in June 1849, and after a brief stay in the districts of Tarma and Cockaigne, was established in 1850 in Huancayo.

In this city founded the College of St. Elizabeth in 1851, and supported the liberal revolution in 1854.

Then wrote the first general regulation of public instruction on April 7, 1855 with the title of inspector of public instruction, was in charge of implementing it.

As secretary, joined the delegation in 1856 that led on Pedro Galvez, his former pupil, to the governments of Central America, Colombia, Venezuela, Spain and France.

Returning in 1866, he was appointed inspector of public instruction again.

Joined the Faculty of Arts at the National University of San Marcos for regentar Professor of Transcendental Philosophy, shortly after the January 26, 1867, he was elected dean.

He was awarded the degree of Doctor of Letters on July 11, 1868.

For the second time remaining traveled to Europe between 1870 and 1872, to study the educational guidelines applicable to Peru.

And, it revived in the deanery on April 10, 1872, inaugurated the teaching of history of Peruvian civilization in 1875 where I had the opportunity to defend the university against the encroachments authorized by Nicholas Piérola during his dictatorship in 1880 and against Chilean depredations.
