"Coinciding with the seventieth anniversary of the Military Parachute School and the fortieth anniversary of the PAPEA, it is an honor for us to re-direct this popular race."
This is how the Colonel Chief of the Alcantarilla Air Base began his words of thanks to all the Public and Private Organizations, which in some way make it possible for the Popular Sewer Race to become a benchmark in athletics in the Region.
Two routes, one of 5 kilometers that runs through the Villa de Alcantarilla and one more technical, of 14.1 km, that crosses the facilities of the Air Base and the Sandencia de la Seca.
The race is part of the Running Challenge, a popular racing league promoted by the Athletics Federation of Murcia.
Both routes will start simultaneously at ten o'clock in the morning from the Main Street of Alcantarilla, where the finish line will also be installed.
A CAREER FOR SOLIDARITY
Lieutenant Colonel José Pablo Aldama, Director of the test, explained in the presentation that, as usual, all the benefits go to several charitable associations (AFES, Puro Corazón and Cruz Roja Alcantarilla).
The runners, in addition to receiving a technical shirt designed for the occasion, will enter the raffle of gifts donated by the collaborators.
The mayor of Alcantarilla, who will be one of the 5K runners, stressed that "the wait and the desire for the race to arrive, delves into our thoughts for months", to which was also added Adrian Bonache, of the FAMU , in his speech.
The delivery of numbers will be made on Friday and Saturday in Decathlon Murcia West, in the Industrial Park of Sangonera la Seca, while on Sunday a point will be enabled in the "entrevías" pavilion.
STILL THE OPEN REGISTRATIONS ARE
So far, 1,200 runners have been registered between the two distances and they are still open on the web platform www.famu.es and on the "register" link of www.carrerabasealcantarilla.com until the 20th of this year.
The cost is 13 euros for both distances and 11 for athletes with a federal license.
There will be prizes for the first three absolutes in the 5-kilometer event, as well as for each of the categories established in the 14.1K.
THE AERIAL BASE OF SEWAGE
The Region of Murcia hosts three Air Bases and Stations.
In San Javier (with a satellite quartering in Los Alcázares), Totana and Alcantarilla.
In the latter, two units specialized in military parachuting coexist.
The Military School of Parachute "Méndez Parada", which celebrates the 70th anniversary of the first parachute launch in Spain this year, has since 1947 trained all the Spanish military paratroopers, the various armies (land, sea and air), the Civil Guard and the National Police.
It also trains foreign students.
With a wide range of courses, the school annually forms more than one thousand soldiers in different forms of parachuting.
The Squadron of Sappers Parachute (EZAPAC) is the special operations unit of the Air Force, which, under the slogan "Only deserves to live who for an ideal noble is willing to die", is in charge of providing security to the main missions of the Air Force in national territory and abroad.
In the Acrobatic Parachute Patrol of the Air Force (PAPEA), personnel from the last two mentioned units coexist.
With ample training and skill, the PAPEA marks this 2018 forty years drawing in the sky the colors of the Spanish flag.
Twinned with the Region, the PAPEA has taken the name of the Air Force, and the last name of Murcia to different national and international exhibitions and championships.
Just two weeks ago, he returned from Empuriabrava, consolidating as champions of Spain in the discipline Flight in Indoor Training.
