The Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment, Javier Celdrán, this morning held a working meeting with the Colonel of the Sewer Air Base, Francisco Javier Fernández, and his team in which they addressed the work on environmental issues performs in these military and work facilities of the Unit and the Environmental Management System implemented in the Air Force, which has resulted in the ISO 14001: 2004 certification and the advances in the implementation of the new version, ISO 14001: 2015.
This environmental management system is based on continuous training, compliance with environmental regulations and the establishment of ways of collaboration with public administrations that allow progress in environmental improvement and excellence.
In this task, technicians of the Air Base and of the General Directorate of the Environment have worked together on the documentary requirements and the management and reduction of the waste generated in the military base.
Celdrán highlighted "the work that is being done in the environmental management of the Base and we will continue collaborating with the Air Force to achieve excellence, in addition to providing the necessary technical support to implement the principles of the circular economy."
The counselor announced the proposal for the participation of the military base in the Regional Commission for the Improvement of Air Quality, considering that "the experience and involvement of those responsible can contribute to advance in that line".
The Community has completed the installation of three new meteorological stations in educational centers in the vicinity of the chemical pole of Alcantarilla to reinforce the control of air quality.
In 2005, the Environmental Management System (EMS) of the Sewer Air Base was put into operation and certified in accordance with the UNE-EN-ISO 14001: 2004 standard.
Since then, the Sewer Air Base has maintained certification in compliance with the standard after the corresponding follow-up and renewal audits, the last one being in 2017. Currently, with the entry into force of the General Instruction of the Head of State Mayor del Aire 90-31, the Air Force works in a new Corporate Environmental Management System (SGA).
Within this action and since the ISO 14001: 2004 standard will become non-existent in September 2018, the Sewer Air Base aspires to ISO 14001: 2015.
