For the sixth time, one night was going to be reserved to pay tribute to the most outstanding athletes, coaches and institutions of the recently concluded season.
On this occasion it was time to take stock of the 2016/17 campaign, again a course full of regional records, national medals and new internationalities, among other successes.
The VI FAMU Athletics Gala brought together an important representation of the regional athletic family, with the Saltar El Atardecer de Alcantarilla as its venue.
There took place a gala dinner started with the intervention of the mayor of the municipality, Joaquín Buendía.
Later, a recognition ceremony would start, from the regional and national records achieved during the last season, through the Olympic Spirit award and, of course, recognizing the medalists in Spanish Championships, international athletes, silver and gold shields , to culminate with the special prizes to the best athletes, coaches, clubs and institutions of the year.
After the words of the General Director of Sports of the Autonomous Region of Murcia, Alonso Gómez, the culmination of another memorable night took place in the most undesired and deserved way possible, paying tribute to the memory of Óscar Sánchez Andreo.
In the great night of regional athletics, we could not miss the memory of those who lived for and for our sport.
The Gala of the Federation was chaired by its president, Juan Manuel Molina, accompanied by the mayor of Alcantarilla, Joaquín Buendía and the general director of Sports, Alonso Gómez, being also present in the same the mayor of Los Alcázares, Anastasio Bastida, senators for Murcia, the Nuria Guijarro sewer of the Popular Party and Juan Luis Soto of the PSOE, with various councilors of sports of our region, among them that of Alcantarilla, Antonio Martínez Griñán, as well as members of the Municipal Corporation.
The institutional distinctions of the Gala were for the Alcantarilla City Council, as the Best Institution collaborating with the Athletics 2016/2017, for its work of promotion and collaboration with the Federation and Hero Spain as Best Collaborating Company, for its commitment to all events sports in which the FAMU collaborates, always with the support of the important Murcian company based in the municipality.
It was not a coincidence that Alcantarilla, for one day, for one night was, as the mayor of our municipality, Joaquín Buendía, indicated the meeting point of a large number of stars, in that great universe that is the Murcian athletics.
He thanked the choice of Sewer for this sixth edition of the gala and delivery of the prizes of the 2016-2017 season, fruit of the work that has been developing, with a management of the sewer team with its president Lydia Sánchez in front and above all, a team with such a brilliant technical direction, such as the Nutribán Sociedad Atlética Alcantarilla, since its technical director, Juan Carlos Abellán, received the award for the Revelation Coach, as well as a large cast of young promising athletes, who already shine with their triumphs with their own light, such as the winner of the Olympic Spirit Award, Daniel Tárraga, the sprinter Sergio López as Best Male Athlete Sub '20, national gold medalist and international athlete, as well as the sewers José' Antonio Maldonado, pole vaulter and Pedro Conesa, marchador, who in his case will receive the award for Best Athlete Sub '18.
Also receiving David Hurtado, the award for Best Promotion Coach, being in charge of the section of the Nutribán march and trainer of the sewer gait athlete, Pedro Conesa
Celia Soler was also recognized among the national medalists and for that reason she was awarded the FAMU silver shield, apart from receiving multiple diplomas for her great achievements this season, not counting the section related to regional records obtained during the 2016 season. 2017, where the alcantarillero club has counted equally with numerous representation, when obtaining regional records, like Blanca Silguero, Julieta Garci'a Conte, Noemí Armero Montesinos, in jump with pole, in the categories benjamín, infantile and alevín, along with Nerea Costa Clemares, in throwing of hammer, uniting to all of them the regional records of Maria Soriano, or Francisco González and Diego Valera that got it, along with Sergio López and José Antonio Maldonado, in 4x100 meters.
Not forgetting our veteran sewer, Club Jacinto Benavente College, but with a card to compete nationally and internationally with the Nutriban, Purification Lopez Molina, bronze medal in the Veterans Spain Championship, in 10 Km. March in Route, as well as Regional Champion 5 Km. Run on Track - Veterans Championship of the Murcia region and control races.
As well as other Nutribán veterans among whom was Aurelia Marín, weight thrower and 85 years old.
Another extremely important section was held by the lorquina Úrsula Ruiz, with diplomas, awards and prizes throughout the night, highlighting the main one of the gala as Best Absolute Athlete for the fourth consecutive year, her new internationalities, national golds and her Spanish record of launch of Peso and also in the school of the Nutribán Sociedad Atlética Alcantarilla, in the Weight section.
The realization of the sixth gala in Alcantarilla, in the Hall of Celebrations "El Atardecer", the FAMU continuity to the intention that this gala visit every year a different place of the regional geography, celebrated for the first time in 2012, with the Restaurant Gambrinus de Cobatillas (Murcia) as a witness;
Restaurante Mediterráneo de Yecla hosted the II Gala in 2013, attending the Campus of the UCAM in Cartagena in 2014. The Circus Theater of Murcia hosted the event in 2015, taking place the last edition so far in the Hotel Riscal de Puerto Lumbreras, last year.
