The mayor of Alcantarilla, Joaquín Buendía Gómez, and the vice-rector of Training and Innovation of the University of Murcia, Pedro Miralles Martínez, accompanied by who will direct this headquarters, the Head Professor of the Methodology of Science and Behavior of the University of Murcia. Murcia, Antonio Pablo Velandrino Nicolás and the Councilor for Education, Juan Manuel Gómez Serra, staged the act of commissioning of the new headquarters of permanent extension of the University of Murcia in our municipality and develop training activities and cultural and sports directed to all ages, and promoted by this educational institution in Alcantarilla.
The new headquarters is constituted under the agreement signed by the rector of the UMU, José Orihuela, and the first sewer mayor.
The purpose of this initiative is the realization of joint activities aimed at permanent training, the promotion of culture and sports, and in general, the achievement of common objectives of the City of Alcantarilla and the University of Murcia.
The university headquarters in Alcantarilla will be located from today on the second floor of the Cultural Center Infanta Elena, next to the headquarters of the Department of Education, in Calle Carros, 37 of our municipality.
The mayor of Alcantarilla, after showing the appreciation of the municipality, has referred to the many illusions and challenges that exist in this institutional collaboration with the University.
This City Council has among its objectives the promotion of culture, sports and in general all those aspects that contribute to individual and social development, as well as to enrich the life of the community and serve as a place of meeting and communication between people that are part of it.
With the start-up of this permanent headquarters we intend, together with the University, to dynamise together the cultural and social development of our citizens.
With this new collaboration between the University of Murcia and the Town Hall of Sewer, it joins the already existing ones subscribed with the university institution, for the Training of Students in Foreign Universities (Erasmus);
the University Volunteer so that students can carry out solidarity activities in our municipality, this time for the educational project to prevent failure, absenteeism and school dropout of children enrolled in 3rd and 6th grades of Primary and 1st and 2nd grades of ESO.
Along with another of the collaboration agreements between UMU, City Hall and Samaniego Teaching Center, for the development of Sports Research Programs, when TAFAD (Senior Technician in Physical and Sports Activities Animation) is being taught in this center, thus converting it into a laboratory of Research and Training in Sports Sciences.
It is also important the collaboration and support we have with university students, specifically 232 are making use of the bonuses we have through the agreement between LATBUS and the City Council.
The promoter of the agreement, the vice-rector of Training and Innovation, Pedro Miralles, has indicated that he considers the university extension as one of the classic missions of the university, with thirty permanent seats already created throughout the Region.
In addition, it has expressed the commitment of the teaching institution to be up to the expectations generated with the implementation of this headquarters;
as well as that is a commitment to strengthen relations with the municipality to develop projects within culture, sports, with the possibility that even in the not too distant future, if feasible, that Sewer also be university headquarters to contemplate that some of the degrees of it can be taught in whole or in part in our city.
The University of Murcia, through its Vice-Rector for Training and Innovation, has among its fundamental missions to promote the creation and dissemination of thought and culture, not only in the university community, but in its environment and in society as a whole, to contribute to the integral formation of the inhabitants of the Region of Murcia.
Among the objectives of the University is university extension, which encompasses social and cultural transformation, the creation and dissemination of critical, participatory and supportive cultural habits and forms, the promotion of sports practice, the improvement of coordination with education secondary education, as well as contributing to a permanent, open and plural formation.
The extension of the University aims to bring knowledge to any sector of the population, from childhood to adults, encouraging continuous learning, promoting artistic creativity or promoting sports activities, in order to bet on a critical and supportive spirit, for healthy habits and respect for cultural, social and environmental diversity.
Also, among its functions, are basically the promotion of culture and awareness of citizens in their practice and enjoyment, the development of knowledge of the culture and society of the environment through the promotion of sociological, anthropological or artistic studies, as well as as the promotion of training activities or analysis of the local reality and its topics of interest and the advice and cultural collaboration in the different areas of community life, with public or private Sewer entities.
