Students of the IES Alcántara present in the City Hall the Project "Educating City Sewer" (17/05/2017)

This morning, in the Plenary Hall of Alcantarilla Town Hall, 25 students from 1st and 2nd ESO have presented to the mayor of Alcantarilla, Joaquín Buendía, the project "Sewer Educating City."

The event was also attended by the Councilor for Education, Juan Manuel Gómez, the director of IES Alcántara, Ginés Ruiz Bueno, as well as the teachers coordinating the project, Carmen Ruiz and Carmen Martinez.

Seven students have been in charge of the presentation of the project in which they have exposed what it is and what it means to be an educating city as well as why Alcantarilla should be an educating city.

They have also projected a video that collects visually and graphically the Charter of Educating Cities.

The Mayor, Joaquín Buendía, has encouraged the students to continue in this line of work and has praised the methodology, involvement, the desire, capacity and effort that have put the students and teachers in this project that has resulted in the magnificent presentation Held today in the Plenary Hall.

The International Association of Educating Cities, responsible for this project at the international level, was founded in 1994 as a permanent structure of collaboration between local governments committed to the Charter of Educating Cities, which includes 20 principles concerning the right to educating city, The commitment of the city and the integral service of the people.

The objectives of an educating city are to build an organized citizenship, to solve conflicts peacefully, and for citizens to develop their educational potential.

Some of the projects that work in educational cities are related to social inclusion, volunteering, culture or health promotion.

In the case of IES Alcántara, the project was called "How did our grandparents live in the orchards?"

Which was presented in January at the Citizen Participation Center and, more recently, at the Infanta Elena Cultural Center on 10 May.

An innovative project in which they have been able to combine tradition with new technologies.

There are currently 491 educational cities in 37 countries.

In Spain there are 168 associated cities and, more specifically, in the Region of Murcia are educating cities the municipalities of Murcia, Cieza and San Pedro del Pinatar.

Buendía told them that "from the Alcantarilla City Hall we congratulate the IES Alcántara, its faculty members and their students for their involvement in this project.A project in which the City Council is collaborating, through the Department of Education , For a few months with the educational community as well as the rest of services and will have the final result that Sewer is an educating city.
