The Minister of Family and Equal Opportunities, Violante Thomas, visited with the mayor of Sewell, Joaquín Buendía, the project developed in the Centro Integral San José Obrero under the Gypsy Development Plan, which co-finances the regional government .
The IMAS subsidizes in eight municipalities in the region, with co-financing from the Ministry of Health, Social Services and Equality, social intervention projects integral, which aims to encourage the promotion, prevention of exclusion, development, participation and social integration, favoring the development of expertise and access to employment of the Roma population in the region.
Through these grants, the City Sewer has a grant of 20,000 euros to develop a project aimed at people, mostly Roma, residents in the neighborhoods of San José Obrero, Vistabella and The Campico, who for various reasons are in situation of social exclusion.
This initiative has a total of 76 participants, of whom 33 are men and 43 women.
The Minister said that "the purpose of the project is the development of actions aimed primarily at addressing the needs of children, youth and adults most disadvantaged and their families. Part of the grant has been allocated to hiring an educator, integrating in the structure of the Center for Social Services Sewer, which has meant a boost in Social Work Units of these neighborhoods, to give continuity to the activities initiated in 2014 ".
The Governing Council recently approved the decree that direct grants to municipalities Sewer, Cartagena, Cieza, Lorca, Murcia, Puerto Lumbreras, Cotillas Towers and The Union for the development of these programs for regulating Roma people, whose total amounting to 166,739 euros, of which 29.232 euros are co-financing provided by the Ministry, and 137,507 euros to the Community, through the IMAS.
The minister recalled that "the Roma population is a population group of special social vulnerability. There is a segment, a minority composed of people living in social exclusion and we have to bring more assistance to these people."
The National Strategy for Social Inclusion of Roma in Spain 2012-2020, the Ministry of Health, Social Services and Equality has provided greater budget to co-finance projects of social intervention comprehensive nature of Gitano Development Plan.
Extension to eight municipalities
The budget increase in 2014 meant that the allocation of the Ministry for the Region of Murcia tripling.
Thus, the coverage of Roma Development Plan to eight municipalities in the region was expanded to meet one of the criteria used for the selection of municipalities.
Since last year this increase, to reach the eight municipalities, it is assumed by the Autonomous Community.
Under the Gypsy Development Plan, the IMAS has been subsidizing local government social intervention projects, and in 2015 eight projects in which about 1,700 people are attending were funded.
Grants awarded under the Gitano Development Plan have individual character so that the direct grant to attend the same reasons of public and social interest is authorized.
These reasons are based on the need to support and fund measures were being developed in some of the municipalities selected in relation to the Roma population and the need to support the development of programs in some municipalities with a high density of Roma population or cores population with high concentration thereof.
