The managing director of the Instituto Murciano Social Action (IMAS), Miguel Angel Miralles, spoke yesterday at the training days 'Alzheimer's Disease: Risk Factors and prevention of disease', organized by the Association of Relatives and Alzheimer Patients Sewer (AFAD), which extolled the quality of services provided to older people with Alzheimer's in the day center of the association.
Also, Miguel Angel Miralles recalled that Sewell has two other day care centers for elderly people who also care for those affected by this neurodegenerative disease, making the city one of the areas with "higher coverage" of care for the elderly with Alzheimer .. in addition, "the high level" of participating speakers referred in these days of training for professionals, family members and volunteers.
IMAS director said that "the elderly, especially dependents, are a priority for the regional government."
Thus, the Department of Family and Equal Opportunities provides services for about 9,000 elderly dependents in the Region of Murcia.
Miralles explained that the region has 3,784 places for older people, both residential and day centers .. Of these, approximately 30 percent are for seniors with Alzheimer's or other dementias, receiving specialized care.
The conference on Alzheimer's, which runs until tomorrow, is organized by AFAD Sewer, Care Diversity and Volunteerism and the University of Murcia, through the Vice President of Students, Quality and Equality, in collaboration with the City Sewer.
