The City Council of Alcantarilla has obtained the 'Carbon Footprint' seal (calculation 2019), which shows the commitment to protecting the environment and the implementation of initiatives to reduce pollution and improve air quality, such as promotion of less polluting means of transport, the use of solar energy in some municipal offices and the use of LED lighting.
This badge recognizes the City Council's effort to reduce polluting emissions and offset greenhouse gases to fight climate change and promote sustainable development.
The Councilor for Economic Development, José Antonio López Olmedo, explained that "we are strengthening the fight against climate change by the City Council, as a sign of our constant commitment to the environment and the reduction of polluting emissions is one of the objectives of the Action Plan for Climate and Sustainable Energy (PACES), which we signed in 2019 ".
Among the actions launched by the City Council is the installation of four devices to measure air quality, which collect samples and analyze suspended particles and the level of polluting gases.
This information can be consulted at https://www.alcantarilla.es/calidad-del-aire/ In addition, the installation of the first electric vehicle charging stations in Alcantarilla has already begun, in collaboration with the Moves Program, funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), to promote sustainable mobility.
With the same objective, the City Council has also designed the first multimodal platform for pedestrians and cyclists adapted to climate change, which will link the city center with the West Industrial Park.
This initiative is part of the European Life City Adap3 project.
The configuration of the Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (SUMP) is another of the projects to improve the environmental quality of Alcantarilla, which is currently in the final drafting phase.
The use of photovoltaic solar energy in some administrative, educational and sports facilities meant that in 2019 the public buildings of Alcantarilla stopped emitting more than 460 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere.
This improvement in energy efficiency is completed with the replacement of conventional luminaires with other LEDs, with lower consumption, and the purchase of certified green energy for use in municipal buildings.
