| The early cancellation means saving one million euros for the municipal coffers | The Alcantarilla City Council has canceled in advance the debt it had with the Latbus transport company since 2013, with a single payment of 1.1 million euros, which represents the saving of another million. This is the agreement signed today by the mayor of Alcantarilla, Joaquín Buendía, and the president of Latbus, José Luis Sánchez, after the approval of the extraordinary plenary session of the City Council, which they unanimously supported. The amount of the debt corresponds to the bills pending payment until 2013, plus the corresponding interest.
The initial forecast of payments ended in 2023, but under this agreement it will be settled next month. "The cancellation of the debt represents an important saving, but it also benefits all residents, since from now on the item allocated to public transport in the budget we will be able to allocate it entirely to improving the service," said the mayor. In addition, "the amount of the settlement corresponds to the remaining cash for 2019, so the single payment to the company does not represent an effort in this year's budget, since it has sufficient liquidity," he added.
