Alcantarilla has a new system to measure air quality and noise level in the city center, through two sensors installed in the Plaza Adolfo Surez and in the Plaza de la Inmaculada.
With these devices, the Local Development Agency remotely collects and analyzes environmental parameters such as suspended particles and polluting gases categorized by the World Health Organization (WHO) as harmful to humans in certain concentrations, i.e.
NO2, SO2, H2S, NO, CO and O3.
They also include a precision sonometer for noise control.
In addition, the equipment installed in the Plaza de la Inmaculada has a meteorological station to measure the temperature, humidity, luminosity, speed and direction of the wind and rainfall.
The Councilor for Economic Development, Jos Antonio Lpez Olmedo, explained that "the first equipment will serve to control air quality in areas with the highest population density and represent a step further ½s in the commitment acquired by the City Council to comply with the Sustainable Development Goals, as set out in the Action Plan for Climate and Sustainable Energy (PACES) that we approved in 2019 ".
Since 2017, the City Council has been part of the Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy, the European strategy to combat climate change to reduce greenhouse gases by 40 percent by 2030.
Currently, the City Council is preparing the Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (SUMP), which is why it has made a survey available to citizens in which they can state their needs regarding means of transport.
