The project is carried out within the framework of the 'Regional Green Roof Plan', promoted by the regional government within the Sustainable Architecture and Construction Strategy of the Region of Murcia, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (ODS) of the United Nations Organization (UN) and the European Urban Agenda 2030.
The Minister of Development and Infrastructure, Jos Ram n D ez de Revenga, and the Mayor of Alcantarilla, Joaqu n Buend a, explained the details of the project that arises from an agreement between both institutions, which will be developed in the Local Development Agency of the municipality on an area of ??about 200 square meters.

For this, the Community has drawn up the green roof project as one of the most effective nature-based solutions for the building chosen by the council and taking into account the technical specifications of the property.
The project includes a monitoring system that allows evaluating the progress of the expected benefits.
For its part, the Alcantarilla City Council will carry out the works, which involve an investment of approximately 20,000 euros and will have an execution period of two months.
Likewise, a continuous evaluation of the parameters studied will be carried out to carry out adjustment or correction measures that allow to specify an increasingly efficient model.
Pilot project The roof that will be installed in the Local Development Agency of Alcantarilla will have base vegetation of native species, which are perfectly adapted to the climatic requirements of the area and very resistant to stress.
It will be of an extensive type with species with high water retention capacity and low irrigation needs, combined with herbaceous and native plants to create compositions of different textures, colors and sizes.
A roof and storage rainwater collection system will be installed, with a buried tank, to enable the reuse of water through an irrigation programmer.
Likewise, there will be an electrical installation to control the closing or opening of the solenoid valves connected to the irrigation programmer.
To ensure proper functioning of the roof, periodic visits will be carried out to inspect the good condition of the roof and the evacuation of water, ensuring its durability.
