The Municipal Cemetery of Alcantarilla will have for the first time a space destined for burial in columbariums, small compartments exclusively destined to the custody of funeral urns with the ashes of the people who have been cremated. This week the construction of a block with 72 columbariums has begun, in addition to the expansion of the niche area, with 120 more spaces, which will be finished in a period of three months. The new space for columbariums is being installed on Nuestra Señora de La Asunción street, in a prefabricated structure with six stories high, each measuring 40 x 60 centimeters. In the same street, another prefabricated structure is being placed for the new niches, in six heights and measuring 90 centimeters x 2.60 meters.
In total, the City Council has invested 47,397 euros in this expansion of available spaces. The management of these new facilities will be entirely municipal.
The Municipal Cemetery of Alcantarilla has a total of 5,750 niches and 1,200 funeral units, between plots and graves.
