| In this edition, 714 works have been presented from all over Spain, various European countries and Argentina, Cuba, Mexico, Peru and Colombia | 'Palabras monógamas', by the Madrid-born Ana Rosa García Romero, and 'El reidor lacrimoso', by the Argentine Maximiliano Sacristán, are the winning works of the first prize in the XVIII edition of the International Competition 'Jara Carrillo', in the modalities of poetry and humorous tale, respectively. In total, 714 literary works have been presented, by authors from all over Spain, several countries in the rest of Europe and also from Latin America, mainly Argentina, Cuba, Mexico, Peru and Colombia.

In fact, three of the awards travel to Argentina in this edition. In the Poetry modality, the access has been for 'Hamlet seems to me an alarmist', by Javier Revilla from Madrid, and the three finalists, 'La transparencia desnuda', by Josefa María Valenzuela (Totana), 'Fábulas capitalitales', by José Luis Méndez (Madrid), and 'Cosas', by Ramón Bascuñana (Orihuela).

In total, 224 works have been presented, of which 12 were shortlisted. In the Humor Story mode, the second prize went to 'Jam Session', by Juan Carlos Fernández (Fuenlabrada), and the three finalists, 'Odontofobia', by Raúl Héctor Lombardi (Buenos Aires), 'Parte de otro', by Marcelo Horacio Galbán (Buenos Aires), and 'La tilde', by Pedro Luis Gil (Cartagena).

In this modality, 490 works were presented, of which 23 were shortlisted. The awards ceremony will be held next Friday, November 27, at 8:00 p.m., at the Infanta Elena de Alcantarilla Cultural Center.

The first prizes of both modalities will receive 1,600 euros and the second prizes 900 euros, in addition to a sculpture by the Murcian artist Belén Orta that represents an allegory of humorous literature. The jury was made up of the Councilor for Culture and Education of Alcantarilla, Luz Marina Lorenzo, the writer Miguel Ángel Hernández, author of 'El dolor de los otros', the professor of Literary Theory and Criticism of the University of Murcia Manuel Martínez Arnaldos and the poet and writer Zaida Sánchez Terrer. A preselection group made up of Rosa María García Gil and Paco Rabadán Aroca, in the Humor Story mode and, in the poetry mode, Antonia Hernández Ballesta and Consuelo Rosique Beltrán, together with the head of the Library, was also part of the jury.
