Huermur has required the Ministry of Culture to immediately comply with the firm resolution issued seven months ago after Huermur's complaint about the poor condition of the BIC monument of the Los Arcos Aqueduct on the Rambla de las Zorreras in Alcantarilla, and where it is obliged to the Board of Landowners to carry out a series of measures for the conservation of this heritage. The conservationist entity is studying raising the matter to the Ministry of Culture in Madrid if the proper conservation and restoration work on this unique aqueduct, whose origins date back to the 11th and 13th centuries, are not carried out immediately.Huermur criticizes the lack of interest of the Alcantarilla City Council in the matter, since for more than a year it has not responded to the briefs presented to the City Council, and for which the involvement of the City Council is requested for the effective fulfillment of the duty to safeguard of this cultural legacy. The Association for the Conservation of the Huerta and the Heritage of Murcia (Huermur) has requested in writing to the General Directorate of Cultural Assets of the Ministry of Culture, immediate and strict compliance with the resolution issued in March of this year after the complaint de Huermur, and by which the Community of Irrigators Junta de Hacendados is obliged, as owner, to undertake a battery of measures and actions to guarantee the conservation, protection and enhancement of the Aqueduct of Los Arcos on the Rambla de las Zorreras in Sewer.Huermur points out that despite being present in the reference file of the Ministry of Culture, as of today the entity has not been notified of any progress aimed at solving the worrying state of conservation of this unique heritage of the Murcian garden, declared in 2011 at the request of Huermur as a monument with the category of Asset of Cultural Interest BIC.The conservationist entity remarks that the Governing Council of the Region of Murcia itself approved the cultural protection of the aqueduct, given that it is an architectural complex of great scope and complexity that allows to save the unevenness of the land, being the reflection of a type of construction characteristic of the traditional agricultural society of the Murcian garden and how it has been transformed throughout history, being integrated into the garden landscape.
It dates between the 11th and 13th centuries, and the aqueduct represents an element of the ethnographic heritage of the traditional irrigation of the Murcian garden that allows us to understand and interpret its operation.
It is made up of three aqueducts attached to each other to house the channels of the Alquibla, Turbedal and Dava ditches,in order to save the drainage of the Rambla de las Zorreras into the Segura river.Huermur has visited this cultural legacy of Alcantarilla in situ, and has been able to verify the terrible state of conservation in which it is found, full of weeds, damage, and on a promenade full of rubble and garbage.
A situation, they point out from the collective, that cannot be allowed or tolerated for another minute, also taking into account that there is already a firm and clear resolution that orders the recovery of the aqueduct, in order to comply with the mandates of Law 4 / 2007 Cultural Heritage of the Region of Murcia.
Huermur points out that: "It is not ruled out either to start demanding Culture to impose coercive fines until the BIC aqueduct recovers completely as dictated by law."The conservation group has indicated on the other hand, that if the Ministry of Culture does not properly exercise its powers and obliges the Board of Property Owners and other agents involved to comply with the resolution of March 2020, and therefore, the mandates of current legislation Regarding historical heritage, the file will be raised to the Ministry of Culture in Madrid, as well as to any number of instances necessary, so that the appropriate measures and procedures are taken.
All this, in order to achieve once and for all the definitive recovery and protection of this unique heritage of the Murcian garden.Silence from the Alcantarilla City CouncilHuermur also denounces the shameful lack of response of the City Council of Alcantarilla to the writings presented by registry more than a year ago, and by which the state of degradation of the BIC aqueduct was communicated to that local entity, and it was urged that within its Municipal powers will carry out as many actions as necessary to guarantee the protection of this heritage.
Since the aqueduct is also listed in the municipal urban planning.
Huermur hopes that the mayor of Alcantarilla, Joaquín Buendía, will put to work once and for all to finally recover this heritage, and begin by responding in a timely manner to the writings that are presented to his city council.
