On the morning of Sunday, March 1 and after seven consecutive editions, the Alcantarilla Air Base celebrated its VII Popular Race that was organized in collaboration with the City Council of Alcantarilla, the hamlet of Sangonera la Seca and the Athletics Federation of the Region of Murcia (FAMU).
In this edition, almost four thousand runners have faced two routes, one of 5 kilometers that runs through the Villa de Alcantarilla and the second, more technical, of 14 kilometers, which crossed the facilities of the Air Base and the Sangonera District La Seca, including this year as a novelty the “5K Walkers” modality, designed for those who wanted to participate in the race without competing, being able to make the 5-kilometer walk.
«In this seventh edition we have once again exceeded all expectations, even having expanded in more than a thousand entries.
We thank the almost four thousand registered for their solidarity participation, thus contributing to the donation of funds for various associations in the Region.
This was how the Colonel Chief of the Alcantarilla Air Base began just before the starting gun on Calle Mayor de Alcantarilla.
Before the start of both tours that began simultaneously at ten in the morning from the main street of Alcantarilla, a solemn raising of the National Ensemble was held in the Plaza de Adolfo Surez, in which all civil and military authorities attended, and joining all the assistants present there, remembering Commander D. Eduardo F. Garvalena Crespo, pilot of the Eagle Patrol, recently deceased.
The Race was carried out with total normality in spite of the influx of so many public that did not want to lose the exit, encouraging at all times and in several kilometers to the runners, in addition to enjoying in the Plaza de Adolfo Surez a pleasant, sporty atmosphere and supportive.
The benefits obtained will go to the Association of Parents of Students (AMPA) of the Public College of Special Education "Eusebio Martnez", as well as the Murcian Association of Cystic Fibrosis and Critas Castrense de Alcantarilla-Murcia.
A race that has been characterized in this edition for its high sporting level, in which the 5K circuit was completed in less than 16 minutes, two and a half minutes later came the first female runner of this route.
At almost 47 minutes the first runner who competed in the 14K circuit crossed the finish line, and ten minutes later the first female runner in this category was completed.
As in the previous edition, it has been an inclusive race in which runners with reduced mobility participated.
DELIVERY OF TORFEOS
The trophy delivery ceremony began at 12:15 with the delivery of a plaque in recognition of his contribution to this and previous editions of the Alcantarilla Air Base Race to Lt. Lieutenant Antonio Astasio, delivering the recognition to the Technical Director de la Carrera, Lieutenant Colonel D. Manuel de Miguel.
Subsequently, the various civil and military authorities proceeded to deliver the deserved trophies to the runners;
for the first three absolutes in the 5K test, and for each of the categories established in the 14K.
Colonel D. Fco. Javier Fernndez, Chief of the Alcantarilla Air Base, along with the Deputy Director of the Military School of Parachuting (EMP) Lt. Col. D. Francisco L. Martn and Lt. Col. Chief of the Squadron of Paratroopers Sappers ( EZAPAC) Mr. Juan J. Arbol were, among others, responsible for making such delivery, in addition to the Mayor of Alcantarilla D. Joaqun Buenda, Brigadier General Deputy Director General of Coordination and Plans of the Ministry of Defense D. Julio Ayuso, the General Director of Education of the Air Force D. Enrique J. Biosca, the latter also participated as competitors.
The Popular Race of the Alcantarilla Air Base, has been integrated into the Running Challenge since 2015, a popular racing league that promotes the Athletics Federation of Murcia (FAMU), which is gradually gaining adherents, considered the best athletic event in the Region during last season, which is adding points and followers to become a national race, as stated before the race D.
