The City Council has built a dog zone in the facilities of the old fish market, next to the Local Police, for the custody of the pets that citizens take to the Police because they are lost or abandoned.
In the new area pets will be guarded for 48 hours, in order to locate the owner, or until the protector takes them to their headquarters for adoption.
The new facilities have 7 large cheniles, with troughs and feeders, and differentiated areas for dogs and cats.
In addition, they are inside a ship, so that the animals will be safe, protected and the inconvenience to the neighbors is avoided.
The Department of Economic Development, responsible for the work, has prioritized the installation of cleaning and disinfection systems.
The Councilor for Economic Development, José Antonio López Olmedo, stressed that "the objective is that the animals are in the best possible conditions", and recalled that "Alcantarilla is committed to the sacrifice 0 of animals."
For his part, the Councilor for Public Safety, Víctor Martínez, reported that "the Local Police do not collect pets from the street, but it is the citizens themselves who deliver them, and the animals are not permanently on the premises, but only the time that elapses until the owner appears or is collected by the protector for adoption.
