The City Council of Alcantarilla, through the Department of Social Welfare Family and Women, has organized this week a series of awareness and prevention activities to eradicate gender violence, on the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Gender Violence that It is celebrated today.

The acts have begun with the reading of a manifesto in the Plaza de San Pedro and a minute of silence for the victims of gender violence.

In addition, a large purple bow has been hung on the balcony of the Town Hall as a symbol of the fight against gender violence.

The mayor of Alcantarilla, Joaquín Buendía, said that "the Center for Attention to Women and Victims of Gender Violence, the Department of Social Welfare, Family and Women of the City of Alcantarilla, attended, from January to October of this year, 455 women, of which 94 have been new cases. "

In person, 13 adolescent women were attended.

In addition, 36 minors were referred to the Service for Minors Exposed to Gender Violence.

In addition, the mayor recalled that since December 2008, the number of women who have died in Spain victims of gender violence since the previous plenary session is publicly read in the municipal plenary sessions.

So far this year, 51 women have died victims of gender violence, 1,027 since they began to be counted in 2003.

Other activities

On the 25th, 26th, 28th and 29th of November a workshop will be held for the prevention of sexual assaults among adolescents called "If it is not a yes it is a no", "Consent through a cup of tea", for students of 4th grade of the ESO, FPI and FPII of the Salzillo, Alcántara and Sanje institutes.

On November 27, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., there will be a workshop on sexual affective growth and self-knowledge "I, me, me, my pleasure is mine" with the participation of the Codepeco women's group and the group of "Las cometas" women, in the auditorium of the Our Lady of Health residence.

On November 27 and December 13, a workshop for the prevention of gender violence during pregnancy at the Health Center and the Center for Citizen Participation is planned at 10:00 and 13:00.

On November 28, at 4:30 p.m., cinema-café-gathering and manifest reading was organized, with the screening of the film "A question of gender", at the Infanta Elena Cultural Center.
