The sewer Pedro Hernández Caballero, until recently president of the Local Sewer Board of the Spanish Association for the Fight Against Cancer (AECC), has been distinguished today by the Autonomous Community in the "Mayor of the year 2019" awards.
Pedro Hernández Caballero, 93, has been recognized for his work in helping the most disadvantaged since the early 1960s.
His candidacy was proposed to the awards by the City of Alcantarilla last October, because he is recognized locally and regionally for his "work in anonymity in helping the most disadvantaged, and his exemplary selfless help to others" , said Mayor Joaquín Buendía, during his attendance at the event held in Cartagena.
Hernández Caballero has been a member of the Peña de "Misery" and has done an important job of social assistance.
He has also served as president of the AECC of Alcantarilla and secretary of the Provincial Board of the AECC of Murcia, where he has done an important work of prevention and fight against this serious disease, has volunteered in Cáritas in the parishes of San Pedro Apóstol and San Roque de Alcantarilla, and has actively participated in the Alcantarilla Day Stays Center, which has been named since September 2008.
In the same act was named "Mayor of the year 2019" to chef Raimundo González Frutos, and Dr. Ricardo García de León González and the Animay Association were distinguished for their trajectories and their dedication in favor of the elderly.
These awards are organized by the Ministry of Women, Equality, LGTBI, Families and Social Policy.
