The prize consists of the construction of a sports track with recycled glass
Alcantarilla participates in a regional challenge to be the municipality that recycles the most glass from today until November 3.
The "Encesta glass, we all win" campaign, by Ecovidrio, aims to associate the sport of basketball with the recycling of glass containers and the care of the planet, increasing the amount of glass deposited in the igloos.
The municipalities of Murcia, Molina de Segura, Cartagena, Torre Pacheco, San Javier, Lorca, Águilas, Mazarrón, Yecla, Cieza and Totana also participate in this challenge.
From today until November 3, five igloo containers shaped like a basketball will be installed for the recycling of glass in Adolfo Suárez Square, Constitution Square, Campoamor Square, Cayitas and San Pedro.
The prize for the municipality that recycles more glass during the days that the containers are installed is the construction of a sports track made of recycled glass.
The winner will be announced in December.
Participating municipalities will earn points for the kilos of recycled glass and for the dissemination of the campaign to promote recycling.
The Councilor for Economic Development, José Antonio López Olmedo, encouraged all residents of Alcantarilla to deposit the glass in these containers and demonstrate their commitment to recycling.
682 tons of recycled glass
Alcantarilla last year recycled 682 tons of glass containers, which means that each citizen recycled an average of 16.4 kilos of glass.
The municipality has 184 glass containers, so there is an igloo for every 226 inhabitants.
In the Region, 25,363 tons of glass containers were recycled last year.
Ecovidrio is a non-profit organization that is responsible for the management of glass containers deposited in containers throughout Spain.
This campaign is organized with the collaboration of the Autonomous Community, the Alcantarilla City Council and the Basketball Federation of the Region of Murcia.
