The City Council gave a plot of 1,800 square meters for the new installation in 2017 and since then nothing has been known
The vice-secretary of communication of the Popular Party of Alcantarilla, Víctor Martínez, lamented that the General Director of Police, Francisco Pardo Piqueras, canceled yesterday a meeting scheduled for today in Madrid with the mayor of Alcantarilla, Joaquín Buendía, to discuss the construction of a new National Police Station in Alcantarilla.
Víctor Martínez indicated that "the scarce interest of the Socialist Government of the Nation is shown to carry out the projects committed since May 2016, which benefit the entire population of Alcantarilla and the 60 National Police personnel assigned in this Police station, they can't do their job in the right conditions. "
In addition, he insisted that "not even the delegate of the Government in the Region, Francisco Jiménez, defends the interests of the sewers, since last week, in the celebration of the Custodian Angels, patrons of the National Police, made statements in which confirmed that an infrastructure plan is planned, and that a Police Station will be made in Yecla and another in Molina de Segura, without naming Alcantarilla at any time. "
"We hope that the Police Department has not changed the priority of the municipality of Alcantarilla, and this has been an additional reason to suspend the meeting," Martínez said.
The deputy secretary of communication explained that the City Council requested the meeting with the General Director of Police on July 22, and it was not until September 3 when the General Directorate confirmed the appointment for today, October 9, in Madrid.
Yesterday morning the appointment was reconfirmed from the City Council and late in the morning it was canceled by the General Directorate arguing that meetings will not be held until after the elections.
First commitments in 2016
In May 2016, the then General Director of Police, Ignacio Cosidó, visited the Alcantarilla facilities and adopted the first commitments for the construction of a new Police Station, the City Council would transfer the site and the General Directorate would carry out the geotechnical and topographic studies of the site, Project writing and execution.
In 2017, the City Council made available to the Secretary of State for Security a plot of 1,800 square meters on Calle Mayor José Legaz Saavedra, next to the children's garden of the Torrica neighborhood.
The following general director, Germán López, ratified the agreement and promised to tender the works between 2018 and 2019.
In addition, in the budgets of the 2018 fiscal year, approved in June 2018, around 100,000 euros were appropriated for the work and a commitment acquired for multi-annual investments of up to 2 million euros.
Víctor Martínez said that "since then in Alcantarilla we have not known anything else, the socialist government paralyzed the project and not one euro has been executed";
and added that "in fact, we do not have the possibility of knowing the plans of the Government since they have canceled the meeting with the mayor and we do not know how many months we will have to wait after an election and new appointments. If Pardo is not going to have contact with no Administration for months, should leave office. "
Martinez insisted that "in the meantime, the Alcantarilla Police Station continues in an unfortunate state, unfit for our time."
