The mayor of Alcantarilla, Joaquín Buendía, stressed that this title is granted to Daniel Serrano "for his services for the benefit, improvement and honor of the municipality of Alcantarilla";

and added that "if it had not been for his initiatives, his courage and his tenacity, the history of Alcantarilla would be fragmented and we would have had to base many of the events that happened on this earth between the 5th centuries BC and IV AD. . in hypotheses and not in realities ".

Daniel Serrano Várez was born in Montealegre del Castillo (Albacete) in 1939. He has been an adoption sewer since 1979, when he was transferred to the municipality to carry out his career as a teacher at the Nuestra Señora de la Salud and Jacinto Benavente schools, until his retirement.

His career in the archeological field has to do with the construction boom of the 70s and 80s in Alcantarilla.

Daniel Serrano inspected the new works carried out in the old town, in the neighborhood of San Pedro, as well as the land near the channels of the Segura river and the old Guadalentín, identifying a score of archaeological sites, and documenting and saving from its destruction numerous archaeological fragments, especially of Iberian and Roman times.

In addition, he conducted surveys on the Cabezo del Agua Sallada and its surroundings.

He was the promoter of a good number of archaeological excavations such as the one of the arches of the Noria in the 90s, the urgent excavation of the aqueduct of the Noria, the excavation in the Iberian-Roman rural habitat in the Cabezo de Agua Sallada and Huerto de the Canals, excavation in the town center, and studies of the aqueducts of the Alquibla, Turbedal and Dava ditches.

In addition, he has published 59 scientific articles in books, magazines and specialized blogs.

The mayor said that "the appointment of Adoptive Son is the culmination of a series of awards that the town of Alcantarilla has given this illustrious neighbor as the celebration of an exhibition on the discoveries of the archaeologist, last year at the House of Cayitas , and name a street next to Cabezo del Agua Salá, last June.
