Alcantarilla will have a shaded multimodal platform for pedestrians and cyclists, with trees, which will connect Adolfo Suárez Square with the West Industrial Estate.
This is the first section of a bike lane that will be built by the City Council of Alcantarilla, with a length of 800 meters and that is part of the European Life Cityadap3 project.
This action will be the axis on which the future sustainable mobility network of the municipality for pedestrians and cyclists will be developed, which will have a total length of 3.1 kilometers, through the urban area and green areas, the West Industrial Estate being its backbone .
The initiative is part of the European Life Cityadap3 program, led by the Federation of Municipalities of the Region of Murcia, with the objective of involving local industries and companies in the financing of actions in the municipalities of Alcantarilla, Lorquí, Molina de Segura and Reggio Emilia (Italy), with a total budget of 2 million euros.
The project, which already has the collaboration of Hidrogea, Plasbel, Copele, Nutrafur, the business association of the West Industrial Estate and the conservation entity of the polygon, will begin in 2020 and has a duration of 4 years.
The total budget for the first 800 meters of bike lanes in Alcantarilla is 387,629 euros, of which 148,343 will be provided by the City of Alcantarilla, 54,000 euros by companies in the municipality and 185,286 is funded by the European Union.
The action is included in the Action Plan for Climate and Sustainable Energy (Peace) of the City Council, approved last April, which has measures to address climate change and to promote sustainable mobility.
In addition, Alcantarilla joined the European initiative to fight climate change Pact of Mayors for Climate and Energy 2017, and acquired the commitment to achieve the objective of the European Union that marks the reduction by 40 percent of gases from greenhouse effect until 2030, and promote and develop measures to mitigate climate change.
