The mayor of Alcantarilla, Joaquín Buendía, proclaimed yesterday the Marian festivities dedicated to the Virgin of Health of Archena in an act that was held in the hermitage located in the Archena Spa.

Buendía highlighted the union between Alcantarilla and Archena in his proclamation and made a parallel between the life of the Virgin Mary and the invocation of the two municipalities to the Virgin of Health.

The alderman of Alcantarilla thanked the Brotherhood of Anderos of Our Lady of Health for his appointment, its president, José María Gómez, the mayor of the town, Patricia Fernández, as well as the president of the Spa, Amelia Isabel Pérez.

The mayor said that "we all know that the real reason that brings me here today is none other than the wonderful ties that have created between Archena and Alcantarilla Nuestra Señora la Virgen de la Salud, Patrona and Mayor Perpetua de Archena, and Patrona and Honorary Mayor of Sewer ".

And he stressed that the archeneros celebrate the 80th anniversary of the appointment of the virgin as patron of the municipality.

Buendía also referred to these Marian festivities that celebrate the birth of the Virgin Mary, "with solemn acts in honor of the Virgin of Health, who will leave this resting place to visit her town again. In pilgrimage she will be accompanied from the Spa to the parish of San Juan Bautista to receive the offerings of the devotees, extend their mantle of protection to all who approach it and visit, on this occasion the neighborhood of Corpus Christi. The archeneros will give you, as all years, an octave that since 2005 recovered from its historical tradition, and will return it, surrounded by faithful, to its hermitage of the Spa on the first Sunday of October. "

The mayor recalled that in the Middle Ages, a hermitage was built in Alcantarilla, next to the Segura River, in honor of the Virgin of the Presentation or Virgin Girl, which represented the image of the Virgin Mary when it was presented to the temple, and was venerated thus until the year 1678 that "after the intervention of the Virgin in front of a great epidemic of plague, they will happen to call her Virgin of the Health".

Joaquín Buendía wished in his proclamation "that the affection of the Virgin continue to strengthen ties between our peoples".
