The Plenary of the City Council of Alcantarilla approved this morning, with the votes in favor of the Popular Party, the votes against PSOE and Citizens and the abstention of Vox, the budget for 2019, for an amount of 29,779,821 euros, which means an increase of 9.5 percent over the 2016 extended budget, which was 27,203,358 euros.
The mayor of Alcantarilla, Joaquín Buendía, stressed that "it is a budget that seeks to consolidate budgetary stability, adjusting expenses to income, and increasing the items allocated to people who need it most and to promote business and commercial activity with in order to promote job creation. "
In the budget the credits destined to the Department of Social Welfare, Family and Women have been increased to face expenses associated with the home help service and help for the elderly.
The social entities of the municipality will receive this year, 20,000 euros more than what was approved in the 2016 budget, reaching up to 80,000 euros, for the financing of the different projects that serve different groups.
For emergency aid, 120,000 euros are planned in order to help the families who need it most to face the payment of electricity, water, rent and food.
The budgets include more than 1.5 million euros for large investments in the municipality such as the realization of technical studies of the southern variant, the improvement of the Huerta Museum, the rehabilitation of the Ferris Wheel, the Aqueduct and the creation of a large leisure space in its surroundings, and the remodeling of squares, parks and gardens.
The City Council will also improve citizen services by adapting them technologically to make them more efficient, and will modernize the City Council's IT infrastructure to increase security and offer more online services to neighbors.
Promotion of industrial, commercial and hospitality activity
Buendía said that "the promotion of industrial, commercial and hospitality activity is a priority for an employment generating municipality such as Alcantarilla."
In this area, the collaboration with companies, associations and organizations for the economic revitalization of the municipality stands out.
Trade and hospitality will see their aid increased from 16,000 euros, in 2016, to 23,000 euros, in these budgets.
The subsidy for the main economic engine of Alcantarilla, the western industrial estate, which goes from 15,000 euros in the last budgets to 20,000 euros, is also growing.
In the area of ​​culture and celebrations, the increase in the budget for the festivities is highlighted, for which the amount is doubled to 100,000 euros, and the promotion of cultural activities.
The festivities of the Alcantarilla neighborhoods will have a departure of 14,400 euros.
The Department of Sports and Youth will allocate 90,000 euros in grants to associations, clubs and sports entities of the municipality in order to support the base sport and teams in official competitions.
In addition, the maintenance of sports facilities, the acquisition of equipment and leisure and free time activities will be prioritized.
Debt reduction
Around 20 percent of the budget is intended for capital amortization and interest payments, following the line of debt reduction that has been applied since August 2016 with the return of the payment plan to suppliers that, nationwide, It was made available to all local administrations in 2012 so that its suppliers could charge without delay.
Nearly 39 percent of the total budget, more than 11.5 million, is mainly used to update personnel expenses, which includes the salary improvements applied to workers approved in the General State Budget (PGE).
