In the morning of today, the Plaza de Armas of the Alcantarilla Air Base, headquarters of the Military Parachute School "Méndez Parada" (EMP MP), has witnessed the inauguration of the international competition of European parachute schools, which Year is celebrated in Spain.
Various teams from European countries have come together to compete in different disciplines, both skydiving and other related to military sport, in which ninety competitors in total arrived from Germany, Belgium, Czech Republic, France, Hungary, Italy, Lithuania, Poland, Portugal, United Kingdom and Spain as host country, will compete during this week in various scenarios and places of the Region of Murcia.
This competition arose, in 1980, from the French School of Military Parachuting, called Challenge Inter-Écoles de Parachutisme (CIEP), since then it has been held in different European schools.
The last time it was held in our country was in 2010, and nine years later the best of the best and most important skydiving schools in Europe are summoned again.
Since its first edition (1980) Spain has hosted this competition five times;
1986, 1994, 2001, 2010 and 2019. Of which he has won twice, in 1994 and in 2010.
The teams of the competing countries must compete for five events, of which it consists of parachute launches in the automatic opening mode (in the Mar Menor), manual opening modality, which will be carried out in the EMP launch area, in addition to performing orientation tests (Santomera), swimming (Los Alcázares) and shooting ("Santa Bárbara" barracks in Javalí Nuevo).
After a week of intense competition, with a high level of experience, we must add the difficulty of the weather with maximum expected temperatures exceeding 35 ° C.
