The PSOE plans to promote a local air quality plan during the next legislature that will include various environmental actions, such as the signing of agreements with other administrations, the recovery of green spaces, the renovation of the municipal mobile fleet, the carrying out of thematic campaigns and greater transparency about pollution data.
The socialist candidate for mayor of Alcantarilla, Francisco Saavedra, advances that "one of the first actions of the plan will be to promote the signing of a collaboration agreement with the Ministry of Environment and the City of Murcia, with the aim of coordinating measures among all administrations, given that the problem of air pollution affects both municipalities, whose municipal boundaries are close to each other and present similar problems, such as high traffic intensity. "
In fact, in February, both Alcantarilla and Murcia recorded episodes with rates above the recommended PM10 suspension particle values.
In the measuring station of the sewer locality, 98 micrograms per cubic meter of PM10 particles were reached and in the capital of Segura 55 micrograms.
The PSOE plan will launch campaigns to fight against pollution, promoting sustainable mobility with 'The Day of the Bicycle' and 'Today I only travel on public transport', as well as other topics that favor environmental volunteering and reforestation of spaces: 'A sewer, a tree'.
Another of the actions planned in this plan will be to implement new sewer air quality meters.
"In addition, work will be done to reduce the carbon footprint and energy consumption," says Saavedra.
To this end, the City Council will favor the implementation of electric stations in the town to boost the use of eco-efficient vehicles and will also initiate the progressive renewal of the oldest vehicles in the municipal fleet by cars, trucks and motorcycles powered by fossil fuels or electric.
"This plan is inspired by the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) approved as Agenda 2030, in the General Assembly of the United Nations, so that our municipal policies will prioritize the practices of eco-efficiency, optimization of resources, as well as the implementation of sustainable development measures in the bidding of contracts, in the purchase and in the consumption of public material resources to contribute to the reduction of the carbon footprint, to improve air quality and to preserve our natural spaces ", sums up the socialist candidate.
Anti-pollution protocol
At the beginning of the next term, the PSOE plans to request that the sewer air quality commission be convened to present the aforementioned plan, propose the creation of an anti-pollution protocol and collect the proposals of the rest of the municipal groups and the environmental and social groups. citizen platforms.
"It has to be a living document that attends to all sensitivities," defends the candidate.
The local air quality plan also plans to open a green belt around the municipality that will start with the environmental recovery project of the Agua Salá site.
"This belt will enhance the spaces with vegetation in the surroundings of the municipal area and in the interior of the urban helmet, with the objective of mitigating the impact of PM10 particle pollution episodes generated by Sewer traffic from the main street, avenida Príncipe and the A-7 and El Palmar dual carriageways ", reflects Francisco Saavedra, who studied at the University of Murcia and received his PhD in Chemistry
Cycle lanes to the polygon
Sustainable mobility will be enhanced by the creation of bike lanes.
"In Sewer there is not a single meter of this type lanes and one should study its implantation to connect the population nucleus with some educational centers and the Western Industrial Park, since this measure would help reduce the use of private vehicles, for example, among the neighbors who have their work center in the polygon and who can only travel by car because there is no urban bus line. "
This local air quality plan is included in the electoral program with which the PSOE will attend the next municipal elections and will be one of the measures that will be shed this afternoon, starting at 7:00 p.m., in a monographic day on the environment to be held in the Sewer casino.
During this day is expected to participate as speakers numbers 2 and 13 of the list of the PSOE Sewer City Council, Juana María Céspedes, Personnel Administration and Services (PAS) of the Pharmacology Laboratory of the University of Murcia, and Miguel Ángel Sánchez , technician of the Ministry of the Environment, respectively, as well as the professor of Biology at the Instituto Infante de Murcia and number 8 of the PSRM to the María Dolores Martínez Pay Regional Assembly.
