This company that has its headquarters in Alcantarilla, is the main company hired in the school lunch service of the Region and with a trajectory of more than 30 years, Serunion is an example of experience, closeness and food security.
This has been the reason chosen to visit the central kitchen with the aim of knowing first hand the work carried out by the inspectors of the counseling within the kitchens of the school canteens.
The Ministry of Health, through the Food Safety Service of the Directorate General of Public Health, controls the nutritional values of some 30,000 dining room users.
Currently, the Food Safety Service of the Ministry of Health performs about 700 visits to centers throughout the Region, including day care centers, nursery schools, toy libraries, public, private and private schools, language schools and conservatories.
The professionals of this service value the menus of about 500 dining rooms, with around 30,000 users.
98 percent of the valued menus adopt a healthy and balanced diet.
The Minister of Health, Manuel Villegas, visited the headquarters of the restaurant Serunion today, together with its regional director, Pedro Tallón, and thanked his "excellent collaboration with the Food Safety Service in the control of the values that ensure food balanced of all its users, and its proactivity to meet all food safety and quality requirements ".
"From the Ministry of Health we are especially concerned about the rates of childhood obesity, which must be combated with a balanced diet and physical exercise," said Villegas, "for which we also appreciate the commitment of Serunion with the youngest, through their involvement in the nutritional assessment of school menus, which brings peace and safety to parents ".
The Health Plan of the Region of Murcia has as its fundamental objective to promote the adoption of dietary patterns that develop healthy and balanced eating habits, emphasizing the benefit that the Mediterranean diet represents for health.
To achieve these objectives, the Food Security and Zoonoses Service included specific measures to implement a balanced diet in school canteens, through a specific inspection protocol.
Thus, at least one inspection visit per school year is carried out at each of the centers that provide the dining service, where the implementation of the Self-Control Systems relating to the hygiene standards of food products and the practices of manipulation and the planning of school menus are studied and evaluated from a nutritional point of view.
"Our central kitchen in Alcantarilla has been working for many years and the visit of the Ministry of Health is an indicator that we are on the right track, our experience and our closeness to clients have been key factors to offer a quality service", he said. explained Pedro Tallón, regional director of Serunion.
Serunion through its central kitchen, prepares 2,800 menus per day and 22,000 throughout the Region adding the centers that have their own kitchen.
Serunion employs about 1,000 workers in the Region in its almost 140 centers, among which are schools, hospitals, nursing homes and businesses.
The Ministry guarantees that the nutritional values of the more than 22,000 menus that Serunion serves in the Region are adequate.
As a preventive measure, its central kitchen has implemented a quality control system that guarantees the safety of food.
Likewise, its facilities are subject to periodic food safety audits, both internal and external.
In the case of the latter, the technicians of the Ministry of Health are responsible for overseeing the central kitchen, as they have shown during this morning's visit.
In total, they make 280 special menus every day, among which there are gluten-free dishes or suitable for those who suffer from any type of food allergy.
This personalization in the service has made all children have access to a healthy and balanced diet.
The menus are prepared based on the Mediterranean diet.
This means that each of them consists of a first course of salad or seasonal vegetables and a second dish of pasta, rice, legumes, roast or stew, all made with quality olive oil.
