The PSOE took forward in the March plenary a motion in which he urged the PP government team to study the termination of the contract of the company awarded the nursing home Virgen de la Salud de Alcantarilla.
The initiative of the PSOE was approved with the votes in favor of the Municipal Socialist Group, Citizens, IU, Podemos and the council not attached and the abstention of the Popular Party.
"As of this moment, the legal services of the City will prepare a report on the termination of the contract that since 2000 is in force with the concessionaire for 25 years, renewable another 25", advances the socialist mayor Lara Hernández.
During the session was reported the sanction report opened by the Consistory against the merchant for the flight of an old woman, which occurred on August 2, 2018, and will be settled with a fine to the company of 1,400 euros.
It was also indicated that as a result of that episode the Ministry of Family raised an inspection report and soon it will also be fined to the company for having allowed this resident, of 81 years, and diagnosed of severe Alzéhimer, could leave by the main door with her walker and she remained disappeared for hours.
"We considered the fine of 1,400 euros a ridiculous one because the life of this woman was in danger," lamented Hernández at the end of the session.
The PSOE presented the aforementioned motion to the Plenary session due to the track record carried out by the adjudicator who manages the 54 places for elderly people in the residence.
In these nineteen years, the concessionaire has been the subject of several complaints from relatives of residents, for the menus and lack of personal and material means of the facilities, which has led to several inspections and sanctions from the Ministry of Family and the City Council.
In addition, there have been three leaks of residents: on July 16, 2010, an elderly man diagnosed with Alzheimer's escaped, and on July 23, he was found dead on a lot;
On May 31, 2015, a woman suffered injuries after escaping and suffering a spectacular fall on public roads and on August 2, 2018, the last episode that resulted in two fines occurred.
"It is a recurrent company," said Lara Hernández.
The socialist councilor recalled that "in the Plenary session in November also approved another motion of the PSOE that asked to study the termination of the contract, it is the second time that something is agreed and we hope that the PP will accept the mandate of the Plenary."
Therefore, in the last session of the legislature, next April, the council advances asking the PP to provide the study of legal services to terminate the contract.
"We are not going to allow the mandate to end without knowing what will happen with the management of the residence because that company is not the best one to care for our elderly."
