The doctor in Chemical Sciences and socialist candidate for the mayor, Francisco Saavedra, also proposes to enable a bus line that connects the town with the Western Industrial Park and the creation of bike lanes to promote sustainable mobility
The air pollution measuring station of the Ministry of the Environment, located in Alcantarilla, between 8 and 9 o'clock this morning has registered an increase of 64 to 98 micrograms per cubic meter of PM10 particles.
The socialist candidate for mayor, Francisco Saavedra, who holds a PhD in Chemistry from the University of Murcia, recalls that "road traffic is one of the main causes of this type of small particles and the municipal area of Sewer is surrounded by roads , like the highway of El Palmar (MU-30), the A-7, the Príncipe Avenue or the national highway that connects us with Murcia ".
To cushion the pressure that road traffic exerts on the quality of the air breathed by residents of Sewer, whose term is one of the densest and most concentrated in Europe, Saavedra proposes the creation of a green belt.
"A green ring that surrounds the urban helmet could help to preserve the health of the inhabitants", underlines the candidate of the PSOE to the mayorship.
"Some Spanish cities such as Zaragoza, Valencia and Vitoria have already opted to create green belts."
Another of the measures proposed by the candidate, and at the time doctor in Chemical Sciences, is the creation of a regular bus line that connects the town with the Western Industrial Park.
"At present there is no bus, despite the large number of residents who work in the polygon and could stop using their cars to move each day to their job."
The candidate advances that in his electoral program will include the creation of bike lanes in the town to promote sustainable mobility.
"This initiative would help to reduce the use of vehicles and with it the production of PM10 particles that affect the quality of the air we breathe."
The Ministry of Environment created in May 2018 an Internal Protocol BTX: Benzene, Toluene and Xylene for the numerous complaints about episodes of bad smells that made the neighbors and some collectives, such as the Aire Limpio platform.
However, Saavedra regrets that "the Ministry did not include in the document PM 10 particles, despite the enormous intensity of traffic that supports Sewer and its environment."
