Through the President of the Unicef ​​Committee of the Region of Murcia, last Friday, the obtaining of the municipality of Alcantarilla del Sello de Ciudad Amiga de la Infancia was announced.
The Child Friendly Cities Program, led by UNICEF Spanish Committee, has as its general objective to promote the application of the Convention on the Rights of the Child (UN, 1989), of which our country is a signatory, in the scope of Local Governments .
Its fundamental pillars are the design of effective public policies based on the Convention on the Rights of the Child;
the promotion of child participation and the promotion of alliances between all the actors related to children at the municipal level.
The recognition of Sewer, is based on the long history and great dedication of the City Council regarding actions in favor of children and adolescents.
The process began on December 19, 2017 when the Municipal Plenary unanimously approved to request the start of procedures for our municipality to be declared Child Friendly City as the more than 170 Cities throughout Spain.
Unicef ​​Spain we proposed a series of requirements for our inclusion in the Child Friendly Cities Program (CAI) and the Councils of Education and Citizen Participation, in March 2017, begin the writing of the I MUNICIPAL PLAN OF CHILDHOOD AND ADOLESCENCE 2018/2021 with the collaboration of those municipal dependencies that also dedicate projects or actions for the childhood of our municipality, (Social Welfare, Youth, Sports and Culture).
A Plan in which social organizations that are members of the Children's Bureau, such as Cáritas, Neighborhood Coordinator and Copedeco, have also taken part in order to include all the educational, cultural, sports or leisure proposals that are being developed in Alcantarilla.
The Plan, collects the contributions made by citizens in the Consultation and Debate Phase (participatory workshops) of the Citizen Participation Process, which have been very useful for a correct interpretation of the demands of the residents of the city .
In April of this year, the Memory of Actions for Children and Adolescents 2016/2017, the Analysis and Diagnosis of the population and the Childhood and Adolescence Plan 2018/2021 were sent to Unicef.
This recognition encourages us to continue contemplating as a global and transversal action, the manifest interest in the needs of the children and adolescents of our city and the commitment of this institution, in the active contribution of the dissemination and application of the Convention on the Rights of the Child.
