In the morning of today Sewer has commemorated on the International Day of the Girl that is celebrated on October 11, with the reading of an Institutional Declaration, by all the municipal groups that make up the Corporation, highlighting the commitment of the Sewer City Council and its role in implementing public policies aimed at protection, health, sexual and reproductive rights, education, economic and political empowerment and promotion of the rights of girls.
The manifesto that has been read as indicated by the different representatives of the municipal groups in the City Council, was initiated by the Councilor for Social Welfare and Health, Francisca Terol, stating "The Town Hall of Sewer, adds, one more year, to the commemoration on the occasion of October 11, International Day of the Girl, reiterating its recognition of all human rights instruments with the firm conviction of the importance of the visibility of girls to break the cycle of discrimination and violence and achieve compliance of the Sustainable Development Goals ".
"Throughout history, and even today, millions of girls around the world are, without a doubt, the first victims of violations of the Rights of the Child, suffering double discrimination, because of their age and because of their gender, and triple, if they are in a situation of special vulnerability, either because of disability or because of poverty, despite the advances in recognizing this situation and the progress made in improving their living conditions, the achievements are few and far between. slow
The local Spanish Corporations know the challenges they must face to make girls visible and empower, and demonstrate a strong political will to challenge a social construction entrenched in beliefs based on discriminatory gender stereotypes while designing strategies aimed at tearing down traditional structures that they silence women and girls.
Based on the conviction that equality is not only a fundamental human right but the necessary foundation to achieve a peaceful, prosperous and sustainable world, the local Spanish Entities, territorial entities with the capacity to make their own and autonomous political decision and provided with the strength It grants closeness to people and their needs, they perform an irreplaceable task in the recognition and defense of the rights of a plural citizenship that demands a transformation towards a more just society with greater well-being, striving every day to make the invisible visible.
A roadmap, the local one, which sets out the gaze on common challenges in all territories, such as poverty, migration, education, inequality, violence against women and girls, and trafficking in human beings for the purpose of sexual exploitation.
For all these reasons, the City of Alcantarilla reaffirms our commitment to continue promoting policies that guarantee the rights of girls with the aim of achieving a just and sustainable society:
We join all the voices that cry for the end of discrimination and gender violence, an insurmountable barrier on the way to a society in which all people live in freedom and equality.
We recall the importance of continuing to work on measures based on comprehensive action frameworks, where mainstreaming is a fact that permeates each and every local policy.
We welcome the recognition of our work in the State Pact on Gender Violence and renew our commitment to continue working to defend the rights of girls in Spain and the world.
We claim the need for sufficient resources to create, at a local level, participation and decision structures for girls and young people that favor evaluations aimed at establishing the scientific basis necessary to determine the most appropriate and effective mitigation measures.
We recognize the importance of working in the elimination of everyday attitudes and behaviors that, installed in daily life, reproduce and perpetuate inequality.
We reaffirm our commitment to the fundamental rights of children and highlight, once again, our concern about the increasing rate of minors murdered at the hands of their parents as an instrument of control and power over women. "
