On August 2 an elderly woman, resident of the Virgen de la Salud Sewer Residence and ill of Alzheimer's disease, escaped from it and walked lost and wandering the streets of Alcantarilla for more than four hours.
The old woman, who walked very slowly and leaning on a walker, suffered the very high temperatures that are occurring in recent days in our region.
The solidarity of some neighbors who saw her in the main street of Alcantarilla made them give notice to the municipal police service of Sewer, who notified the case to the Residence and proceeded to the transfer of it.
According to family sources, those in charge of the residence had not noticed the lack of the old woman until they received the call from the local police, at about 6:30 p.m. on the same day.
The Socialist Group demands responsibilities to the Department of Social Welfare for these events, as well as the company awarded and management of the Residence.
In addition, "we are going to demand that a rigorous investigation be opened by the Inspection Services of Family Counseling and Equality of Opportunities of the Region of Murcia and the review of the existing concert based on the conclusions" affirmed socialist spokesman Gabriel Esturillo .
"We remind that in the case of this residence and the company that manages it, there have already been many private and public complaints that have been made about it.
If we look at the newspaper archives, no residence has had as many conflicts and lawsuits as the one run by SERGESA in Alcantarilla.
It is legitimate to remember that in July 2010 an old man died in the Sewer after having escaped from this same residence and was found a week later, "Esturillo continued.
"On this occasion we have not had to regret such serious damage, but the same story could have been repeated and we can not allow events of this gravity to continue taking place in a residence that must ensure the care of our elders.
The reality is that some children have taken their mother to a residence thinking that she would be much better served there and that, nevertheless, the negligence of the managers, the lack of personnel in the facilities and adequate supervision, has caused an elderly woman dependent on Alzheimer's has been in an extreme and unacceptable situation "concludes the socialist spokesman who also recalls the case of the old man who after falling down the stairs of the residence with no safety railing, died days later.
