[Huermur manages to extend the BIC protection of the Culvert Wheel and its surroundings (11/12/2020)

Today the decree by which the proper BIC protection environment for the Sewer Wheel is definitively established, and after Huermur's request, has been published in the Official Gazette of the Region of Murcia.

One of the most representative monuments of the garden of Murcia. The new cultural protection for the monument of the wheel includes, among many other assets, its own aqueduct, the Iberian salt water deposit, the irrigation channels of Dava, Turbedal, and Alquibla or Barreras, as well as the Hermitage of Nuestra Lady of Health.

Making a total area of ??20 hectares in the garden. Huermur hopes that this new cultural protection will serve to preserve this patrimonial space from urban aggressions, and from the collective they are satisfied with the result, since from now on the Region of Murcia and the region of La Huerta they have new protected cultural assets. The Association for the Conservation of the Huerta and Heritage of Murcia (Huermur) has managed to significantly expand the cultural protection of the Rueda de Alcantarilla monument, one of the most significant monuments in the region of La garden of Murcia.

In 2018, and within the actions of the "PatrimurSOS Plan", Huermur requested the Ministry of Culture to extend the cultural protection of the wheel, as well as the establishment of its due protection environment n As a monument is a BIC Cultural Interest Site.

Said request has achieved its final objective today, as "Decree No.

173/2020, of December 3, which modifies the declaration of the well of cultural interest, with the category of monument,Rueda de la Huerta and Sewer Ethnic Museum ", approved by the Governing Council on December 3. Huermur points out that with this new cultural protection, various assets are included within the BIC declaration of the Rueda de Alcantarilla, such as the recently discovered and large aqueduct of the Rueda, the Iberian Salt Water deposit whose origins date back to the 7th century BC, the historic irrigation channels of Dava, Turbedal, and Alquibla or Barreras, the Hermitage of Nuestra Señora de la Salud, or the archaeological site of Huerto de las Canales. In addition, the decree of the declaration includes as integral parts of the monument, with the category of ethnographic assets, the Council of Good Men as a customary court, the Hermitage of the Virgin of la Salud, the stretch of Acequia Dava next to Cabezo de la Rueda or Agua Salada, the spring of Agua Salada, and a large area of ??traditional orchard that is currently preserved next to the Segura river. The conservation group is satisfied by this extension of the protection as a BIC Cultural Interest Site of one of the most unique areas of the Murcian garden, which in its administrative processing has also counted s with the favorable report of the Commission of Historical Artistic and Cultural Heritage of the Department of Art History of the University of Murcia. In the same sense, the president of Huermur, Sergio Pacheco, has spoken, noting that: "Huermur has been fighting since 2018 for the adequate BIC recognition of this unique cultural legacy located in Alcantarilla.

As of today, this heritage is already duly protected and recognized as an Asset of Cultural Interest, in a complete and comprehensive manner.

We hope that it will soon be properly valued ". Assets that are affected by the Protection Environment: Archaeological sites: - Head of Salt Water or Wheel - Reservoir C2-Huerto de Las Canales Ethnographic goods: - Council of Good Men.
