The "Stories of the neighborhood" initiative begins to develop social projects in the San José Obrero neighborhood (07/11/2019)

The mayor of Alcantarilla, Joaquín Buendía, signed this morning the collaboration agreement with entities of the Third Sector, public institutions and associations for the participation in the "Neighborhood stories" initiative, which aims to carry out social projects in the neighborhood of San jose worker.

Buendía stressed that "this project is the continuity of the actions that the City Council has been developing since July of last year, and consists of the creation of a Local Action Group that implements employability, social services, environmental reform, projects socioeducational and associationism, in order to improve the living conditions of the residents of this neighborhood. "

To develop this project, the Alcantarilla City Council won a European grant, managed by the Autonomous Community, of more than 409,000 euros for the 2019-2022 period.

The City Council requested the help of the Autonomous Community last May, in a call for local entities with more than 20,000 inhabitants for the financing of two Participatory Local Development Pacts within the framework of the European Social Fund Regional Operational Program.

Among the projects that are contemplated are training and development of itineraries for labor insertion, repairs on housing in the neighborhood, launching an information point on housing resources, urban regeneration through repair and recycling of furniture, food workshops healthy and oral hygiene, alternative leisure workshops for children and adolescents, strategy to reduce school drop-out and absenteeism, awareness of the environment, attention to Roma women, creation of a documentary about the neighborhood and the project, training sessions, creation of a neighborhood association in San José Obrero and workshops on non-discrimination, among others.

The entities that participate are: Alcantarilla City Council, Fundación Secretariado Gitano, Cáritas Diocese of Cartagena, Social Work Marist Brothers Alcantarilla, Copedeco s.

Cooperativa Social Initiative, Puente Association, Alcantarilla-Sangonera Health Center, CEIP San José Obrero and Asedi.
