The teacher and archaeologist Don Daniel Serrano Várez was born Montealegre del Castillo (Albacete), in 1939. He has been an adopted sewer since 1979, the year in which he was transferred to this town to continue playing his teaching career until his retirement.

His life and work, within the archaeological scope, must be put in relation to the urban boom that suffers our locality throughout the years 1970 to 1980. With a previous study of the historical and bibliographic documentation, and taking advantage of the beginning of these urbanistic works, Daniel inspected each ditch of foundation excavated in streets of the old helmet (district of San Pedro) of the locality that found, as well as prospected the lands of orchard and secano near the channels of the Segura river and old Guadalentín, being able to identify a number not less than 20 archaeological sites, and with it to document and save from a safe destruction many fragments and archaeological vestiges, mainly from Iberian and Roman times, and to a lesser extent, Islamic.

He also carried out a series of prospections on Cabezo del Agua Salada and its surroundings.

It was here, on the road that today gives access to the Salt Water Park and together with the Hermitage of Health that is located there, where he found in the company of his inseparable friends Jesus Palmeiro and José Riquelme (teachers and enthusiasts of archeology as well that he) a large number of sculptural and architectural fragments, which were part of the modern walls or parapets made to terrazo Cabezo said.

As proof of his professionalism and love of this science, he communicated each of these findings to the competent bodies in archaeological matters.

Our town of Alcantarilla recognizes D. Daniel Serrano Várez, all his work and research, because if it were not for his initiatives or publications, our History today would be fragmented, and we should have based much of what happened between the centuries V a.

C. IV d.

C. simply on hypothesis, that surely would have led us to interpret a History, which has little to do with what we have today.
