Antonio Rosell "El Lirios" already has his street in Alcantarilla since last night he discovered the plaque that gives his name (12/01/2019)

Yesterday night a well-deserved homage was paid to Antonio Rosell Velázquez "El Lirios", thus fulfilling the plenary agreement to give name to one of the streets of our municipality, to whom in 1978 he founded the Peña Huertana "El Barracón" and the Group of Choirs and Dances Museum of the Huerta de Alcantarilla and create three years later the International Festival of Folklore "Villa de Alcantarilla", and next its XXXVIII edition.

On a cold night but very warm for the emotion that we had at all times.

In an act chaired by the mayor of Alcantarilla, Joaquín Buendía, gave during the course of the event to know the relevant career that the honoree had had and has in its 84 years of a lifetime dedicated to the world of folklore, where it is famously known by his nickname "The Lilies."

In the same were also present members of the Municipal Corporation, the senator by Murcia Nuria Guijarro, the president of the Federation of Peñas Huertanas, Juan Pablo Hernández, accompanied by several presidents of hueños, the chief colonel of the Sewer Air Base, Francisco Javier Fernández, Captain Urbano representing the "Zaragoza" 5th Parachute Infantry Regiment, as well as presidents of several associations and sewer brotherhoods that responded to the event.

The night had, how could it be otherwise, the exceptional participation of the Group of Choirs and Dances Museo de la Huerta, which founded in 1978 "El Lirios" and of which it is still its director, as the Mayor of Alcantarilla recalled, Joaquín Buendía, in his speech, thanking him for the forty years he has been president of the Peña Huertana "El Barracón", currently chaired by María González Soriano.

Joaquín Buendía, recalled the opening of borders that "The Lilies" opened to the Group leaving with their music, dances and songs to many countries, including Italy, France, Germany, Bulgaria, Portugal, being one of the few rocks huertanas that have crossed the puddle and has shown the Murcian folklore in Mexico, with brilliant performances, taking our folklore through many corners and participated in numerous television programs such as Gente Joven (from 1.981 to 1.986), "Tomorrow they will be stars" and the collaboration in diverse programs of the regional televisions like TeleMurcia of the territorial center of TVE or now in retransmissions of 7TV Region of Murcia.

On a night when Antonio Rosell was surrounded by his family, his children Mari Ángeles and Antonio, his four grandchildren, Lucia, Berta.

Luna and Rodrigo, his sister Josefa and recalled the absences of his wife Natalia, his sister Paca or his parents Antonio and María "the del Callejón", who for those who do not know it became popular in the New Javalí and in the towns around for his ability to heal sprains.

Both his son Antonio on behalf of the children and his granddaughter Lucia in the name of the grandchildren, had words of love and gratitude for his father and grandfather, as well as the current president of the Peña, Mari González.

At present, Antonio does not miss the rehearsals or performances, as if from his first stage in the world of folklore outside, because he is also due to have founded or relaunch other folklore groups in Mazarrón, Cañada de Gallego , Morata (Lorca), as well as in some other Murcian hamlet, as it was in his own town with "La Contraparada", in Javalí Nuevo, a town where he has lived all his life and where he was born on May 27 of 1934.

Huertano has been his whole life, but on March 26, 2016, he had a great surprise on the big night of Exaltación Huertana, upon receiving the first of the awards that the Federation of Peñas Huertanas of the Murcia Region established since its inception, naming him "Huertano del Año", in the Spring Festival of Murcia.

But the tributes, awards and distinctions have received them everywhere, in his long career in the world of folklore, always wearing "his" Group of Choirs and Dances of the Huerta Museum.

In 2008 he wrote a text about how to plant some types of vegetables, being edited by the Museum and presented in one of the presentations that "The Lilies" offered on September 10 of that year in the 8th Seminar on Folklore and Ethnography, celebrated in Murcia and that he titled "Recuerdos de un huertano que a it".

Antonio Rosell is a great fan of the trovos, few women close to him or who find in any of the acts involved, which does not provide some of them, always remembering one of them "The day you were born, the sky It was illuminated, all the stars shone, and even the moon shone, "as the Mayor of Alcantarilla began his speech.

From a very early age he was already working in the vegetable garden: digging small trees, sowing and harvesting panizo, and any other task that would have to be done in the garden of his town.

When he was 18 years old, he began to take charge of the car they had at home.

At 10 o'clock in the morning he would take his car and his donkey and go to the field of Cartagena (specifically, to El Albujón) to fill it with tomatoes and return at dawn the next morning, to take them to the fish market.

He escaped from going to the military, since his father Antonio, in the year 55, died and had no obligation to go to military service.

Later he worked, as he calls it, on the "railroad track", where he put sleepers in the construction of the railway line, first in Lorca and then in Cieza.

He charged 600 pesetas a month.

Later, and for 32 years (half a life), he developed his professional activity in Transportes "El Triunfo", starting as a warehouse boy and then working as a driver.

When the company closed, he spent a season in the company of his nephew Pedro, driving the delivery van.

Finally, he became part of the staff of the Alcantarilla Town Hall, at the beginning in the Sports Center and then in the Museum of the Huerta, his other great heart, he kept it as he had never been with all possible plantations, with fruit trees that it had never had its fruits like when he kept them until his retirement.

Throughout his working life, he never stopped working in the garden, in his "Pillica", his great passion along with folklore.

We can still remember how proud Antonio was not long ago in the written press in which he said and taught "My tree gives more abercoques than leaves", as he said with a background photograph in his garden of La Pillica, in his Life had not seen anything like it, he said that he had caught a good time for the set and everything that he has thrown sprouted.

When it rains, it has curdled well, as it manifested.
