Flowers to the soldiers who are in niches of the Sewer Air Base in the Municipal Cemetery (02/11/2018)

With the presence of Lieutenant Colonel Francisco Luis Martín Siverio, deputy director-head of studies of the Military School of Parachute "Méndez Parada", of the Sewer Air Base, accompanied by the Deputy Mayor and Councilor for Public Safety, Juan Antonio Mata, together to the chief sub-inspector of the Local Sewer Police and a Commission of said Military Base, in the morning of today, in the Municipal Cemetery of Sewer, has had the traditional memory that every year by this date is done for both Soldiers buried in niches owned by the Air Base and that due to different circumstances and not service, died in 1961 and buried in our municipality.

The military chaplain of the Air Base, Miguel Angel Romero, made a response next to the graves of the soldiers and members of that unit placed two bouquets of flowers.

The two soldiers, still not belonging to the Air Force, were paratroopers of the Army, but were doing their skydiving courses at the Military School.

Both died in 1961, in one of the niches is the colored soldier Antonio Ondo Motos, born in Rio Muni (Equatorial Guinea), died at the age of 22 and was a student of the 63 basic course of parachuting, dying suddenly, with the typical pain miserere of the time, to arrive after a permit and say that he was sick.

While in the other niche is the 21-year-old soldier Simón Jimeno González, a native of Roda de Eresma (Segovia), who died drowned when he fell to the Segura River in an area close to the Sewer, when he bathed along with other fellow students paratroopers of the 65th year of the Army, he fell into a pit hole with such bad luck that he could not leave because he did not know how to swim, drowned because his companions could not help him.

According to the record, "immediately after it became known, several patrols left the base to try to rescue the body."
